BERITA Berita, Rencana, Advertorial dan Lain Lain Publisiti BERITA 2 Capturing The Moment In Photojournalism The Sun Newspaper, 17 April 2006 ![]() CAPTURING THE MOMENT IN PHOTOJOURNALISM By: Lim Shin Teng Times have changed and wedding photography is becoming more candid and fun, going all out to capture the romance and everything else that happens behind the scene of that important ocassion. These days, the trend is definitely going towards more relaxed, natural pictures that capture what is really going on during the wedding ceremony or event. It has been loosely described as the application of photojournalism in wedding photography. The photographer has no control of the event and must anticipate the moment. He or she must also be much more focused to avoid overlooking precious split-second moments. “We have to snap everything. You have to be alert and sharp to capture that particular moment because it happens only once, and that is it,” said 27-year-old Saiful Nang, who has been taking wedding photos since 2004. “Unlike the conventional method, you cannot ask the client to pose just because you missed a shot. That is not photojournalistic style anymore,” he said. With the photojournalistic approach, there are no restrictions on the types of pictures the photographer is allowed to take, Saiful said. “I snap almost everything that occurs in a event, from the time when the bride applies her make-up till the end of the event. Some of my clients may not want me to venture into the bride’s dressing room and take her pictures there, while some are fine with it,” he said. Adan Impresif operations manager, Hasnuddin Abu Samah, 31, who has more than 10 years experience in wedding photography, said photojournalistic pictures are more than just pictures. Modern couples, usually those living in the Klang Valley and places like Penang and Johor Bahru, are willing to fork out thousands of ringgit to ensure their wedding album is picture perfect, with photos that depict the many and varied aspects of the event. Almost 1,000 pictures will be captured each wedding, and later selected
and compiled into the wedding album, which is very much like a story
book or magazine. |
